Howlet, Robert. 1684. The school of recreation: or, the gentlemans tutor, to those most ingenious exercises of hunting, racing, hawking, riding, cock-fighting, fowling, fishing, shooting, bowling, tennis, ringing, billiards. London: printed for H. Rhodes. Hard cover small pocket sized book. Only 19 pages dedicated to billiards. Chapter focuses on the rules of the game, many of which are still practiced widely. Text on cues, rails, table dimensions, etc. Chapter also covers origins of the game. Condition- excellent leather bound with minor wear only. This small book is very rare and collectible and highly desired by collectors of all the sports listed in the book.
Hoyle, Edmond. 1786. Hoyle's games improved. Being a practical treatises on the following fashionable games, viz. whist, quadrille, piquet, chess, back-gammon, draughts, cricket, tennis, quinze, hazard, lasquent, and billiards. In which are also contained, the method of betting at those games...including the laws of the several games, as settled and agreed to at White's and Stapleton's chocolate-houses, the Star and Garter, & c. Revised and corrected by Charles Jones, Esq. London: printed by J.F. and C. Rivington, T. Payne..., E. Newbery..., [etc.], 1786. Condition: 12mo, vi, 306pp., 2 engraved plates, tables, leaf O5 (pages 297-8) misbound with the prelims where it was originally printed (as A4), contemporary sheep, rebacked. "New edition, enlarged." Jones's edition first appeared in 1775; it was constantly being improved with new games added at intervals. Book in excellent condition. Some wear on corners. Gold gilt lettering excellent condition on spine. Tight binding. Some spotting on inside blank page. An excellent example of this book nearly 230 years old.
Kentfield, Edwin. 1839. Kentfield on Billiards. London. First edition, excellent condition hard cover. Great plates showing various aspects of the game including the effects of squirt and swerve, something that is commonly thought of as discovered only several years ago. The book also illustrates the concept of the pivot point on a cue stick. Considering this book was written virtually right after the invention of the leather tip, it is easy to consider that this book was a hundred years ahead of its time with regard to technical knowledge of the game. There are top players of today who swear that squirt is non-existent. One of the very most sought after books on billiards. Very rare, and hardly ever available anywhere.

Special Books by Eddie Robin
Eddie Robin is an interesting and accomplished player. With fewer than four years total experience on a carom table, he was able to secure the title of U.S. National Champion. His published works number three books so far: Winning One Pocket; Shots, Moves and Strategies; Position Play in Three Cushion Billiards. Each book is a masterwork. They are so sought after today, that not one of them sells for less than $100! Here are some special holdings from my collection:
Lizard Skin Edition- in 1996 Eddie published a second edition to both his one pocket books. The second editions were updated and clarified and are much better than the first editions according to Robin. There were fewer than 2000 books published in hard cover, and only 50 bound in a fine lizard skin set:
